Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the fact that we have so many options for feelings wheels, and that more and more people are talking about emotions on a deeper level! I created this because I hadn’t found one that really spoke to me as an individual, or that serves my work with clients. Everything I had encountered left me feeling like it would be “perfect” if… Let’s be clear though, I have no claim that this is perfect, nor will it ever be.
As a neurodivergent person, everything I have come across seems to associate body sensations with certain feelings as well as everything linking to the “core” feelings (think Pixar’s Inside Out), and I want to expand and dismantle the idea that our complex emotions are limited to the direct link like this. While many might be spot-on for some, I love the idea of adaptability and accessibility to help us understand what we are feeling in more expansive and customizable ways. I opted to list the feelings and body sensations in alphabetical order, and the colors of the middle and outer sections different from the center ones, for ease of disconnecting the association with the center most ring of feelings.
The center wheel can be exactly what we are feeling, but most often it shows what others might think we are feeling. The middle wheel helps us label the body sensations we are feeling. The outer wheel helps us dig deeper and get specific with the emotions we are experiencing.
This wheel can be used to help us learn to recognize our emotions on a deeper level, as well as learning to recognize the things our body is trying to tell us about what we are feeling. This wheel is a great tool for teaching our youth to recognize body sensations and name their emotions.
You can download a free copy below, or if you’d like to give a small compensation for the work I’ve done, this wheel is also listed in our shop.
